Assoprovider fined for obstructing supervisory activities

The Communications Regulatory Authority (AGCOM) has fined the Assoprovider Association for obstructing supervisory activity in the Piracy Shield case

Assoproviderthe association of Internet Service Providers, was fined by AGCOM for obstructing supervisory activities in the context of the activity of the Piracy Shield platform.

The measure comes after AGCOM’s refusal to provide access to the documents of the Piracy Shield platform, the anti-piracy system that has been causing so much discussion since it was established. In particular, the association asked for the list of access inhibition measures implemented through the platform, above all because the inhibitions seem to have also involved subjects completely unrelated to piracy activities.

Similar requests had been rejected against the citizens involved, completely without blame, in the indiscriminate blocks implemented by the platform.

It must be said that Assoprovider has always fought against the platform from the beginning with an appeal to the TAR, and with other ongoing initiatives.

AGCOM’s choice to fine the association occurs precisely in this climate.

Assoprovider, which actively participated in the working table established by the Authority on combating illegal activities for as long as it was permitted, asked the Authority for explanations as to why, without any real reason, it had to provide at a certain point the list of Italian providers.

On the other hand, these data are already in the possession of AGCOM which is the manager of the public register of communication operators (ROC) and which knows, as stated in its defense briefs before the Lazio TAR, the identification data of all network operators and communication services.

Despite the fine, Assoprovider will continue its battle for legality, resorting to all available legal and jurisdictional venues.

«Assoprovider has always been at the forefront in the defense of civil rights, for almost twenty-five years. This time too we will fight for the affirmation of constitutional rights and for the recognition of citizens’ right to a fair defense. We won’t stop, You won’t stop us”explains Giovanbattista Fronterapresident of Assoprovider.
