In the night between Sunday and Monday the Israeli army it bombed three homes in Rafah, the city in the southern Gaza Strip where around 1.4 million Palestinian civilians have taken refuge: at least 20 people were killed, including five children. Israel also bombed some homes in the city of Gaza, in the north of the Strip, killing at least four people and injuring many others. There was also fighting between Hamas militiamen and Israeli soldiers in the Nusairat refugee camp, which is located about 10 kilometers south of the city of Gaza: according to Israeli media, two Israeli soldiers were killed.

The Israeli bombings were carried out a few hours before a encounter in Cairo, Egypt, between a Hamas delegation and some Egyptian and Qatari mediators to discuss a possible agreement with Israel for a ceasefire in the Strip.
