Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner, fourth player in the world, won, this Sunday, the first Grand Slam tournament of his career, by beating Russian Daniil Medveded, second, in the final of the 2024 edition of the Australian Open.

In his first major final, Sinner, 22 years old, prevailed over Medvedev, competing in the sixth, in five sets, 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6- 4 and 6-3, in a match that lasted three hours and 44 minutes.

The ‘executioner’ and successor of the Serbian Novak Djokovic, champion 10 times in Melbourne, became the fifth Italian to win a Grand Slam tournament, after Nicola Pietrangeli (1959 and 1960), Adriano Panatta (1976) and Francesca Schiavone (2010 ), who won at Roland Garros, and Flavia Pennetta (2015), winner of the US Open.
