Bola.net – Bayer Leverkusen advanced to the final of the 2023/2024 Europa League after drawing against AS Roma with a score of 2-2 in the semi-final second leg which was held at BayArena, Friday (10/5/2024) early morning WIB.
Leverkusen actually fell behind by two goals due to Leandro Paredes’ two penalties. However, the hosts recovered and equalized the score through Gianluca Mancini’s own goal and Josip Stanisic’s action.
Thanks to this result, Leverkusen was entitled to progress to the final with a 4-2 aggregate win after they successfully beat Roma 2-0 in the first leg last week.
In the final, Leverkusen will again meet the Italian team, Atalanta, who eliminated Marseille. The plan is that this final match will be held at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin on Thursday, 23 May 2024.

The Course of the Match

Being left behind by two goals on aggregate made Roma try to immediately appear aggressive from the start of the match. On the other hand, Leverkusen also plays attacking at home. However, no goals have been scored yet.
In the 41st minute, Jonathan Tah committed a violation in the forbidden box. The referee also pointed to the spot which Paredes successfully converted into a goal. Roma’s 1-0 lead lasted until halftime.
Roma increasingly had the upper hand after VAR assessed a violation in the 64th minute and Roma received another penalty. Paredes also scored once again and put Roma ahead 2-0.
This score makes the temporary aggregate position 2-2. However, Leverkusen didn’t want to just give up. They finally got a goal in the 82nd minute after Mancini misanticipated a corner kick and sent the ball into his own team’s goal.
Remarkably, Leverkusen avoided their first defeat in all competitions this season after Stanisic, who entered early in injury time, successfully scored the equalizer in the 90+7 minute.
