BERLIN – A car crashed into the crowd in Berlin’s Charlottenburg district: one person died and “more than twelve” were injured, according to initial information provided by firefighters and police in the German capital and reported by local media . The victim is a teacher from Hesse, among the injured are some of her pupils, some in serious condition.

Berlin police spokesman Martin Dams said the driver of the vehicle, a small silver-colored Renault, was arrested. The car got stuck in the window of a large perfumery. The police are currently questioning the man – Gor H., 29, a German of Armenian origin living in the capital – to determine whether it was an accident or an intentional act. According to Bildhowever, the investigators would have found in the car a letter of confession and claim.

According to the testimonies collected by Bild at the crash site, the driver attempted to escape and was blocked by the crowd. The man was driving a Renault Clio which crashed in the windows of a branch of the Douglas perfumeries, after having overwhelmed passers-by.

An eyewitness who spoke to the Berliner Morgenpost newspaper reported that the silver subcompact was traveling at an exaggerated speed around the place, of around 150 km / h.

The incident took place in Breitscheidplatz itself – very close to the Kurfürstendamm shopping boulevard and a few steps from the Church of Memory – which was the scene of the deadly attack of 19 December 2016: the massacre at the Christmas market carried out by Anis Amri, in which they lost life thirteen people.
