Besiktas beats Rizespor 3-2 in the last breath

At the start of the 35th matchday of Trendyol Super League won Besiktas with 2:1 against Caykur Rizespor. This encounter was particularly important in the fight for the European Cup places, as both teams are still vying for qualification for European competition. The game started very turbulently. There were three goals in the first ten minutes, but only two counted. In the fifth minute, Ibrahim Olawoyin scored the early 1-0 for Rizespor after a corner from close range. But Besiktas’ response followed promptly. Once again a corner led to the goal. Necip Uysal headed a long ball to the second post just before the touchline in front of the goal, where Omar Colley (7th), who had moved up, poked the ball, which was slightly deflected by the defense, into the goal and made it 1-1.

Kilicsoy hit doesn’t count

Shortly afterwards, Rachid Ghezzal took a free kick from the right attacking side. Salih Ucan, similar to Uysal before, turned the Algerian’s high cross on the goal line in front of the opponent’s box, so that striker Semih Kilicsoy showed his class as an enforcer and scored the supposed 2-1. But after VAR indicated, it became clear that the ball had previously been centimeters out of bounds, meaning the goal ultimately didn’t count. Immediately afterwards, Jackson Muleka shot low and hard with his right just before the edge of the penalty area and just missed the visitors’ goal. In the 25th minute, Kilicsoy unexpectedly scored with a half-volley from the left diagonal of the penalty area. Rize keeper Tarik Cetin was surprised, but then parried the shot, but was unable to hold on to it.

Ghezzal only hits aluminum again

Some time later, Ghezzal (38th) had one of his brilliant moments. The right winger dribbled briefly on the right edge of the penalty area and circled the ball beautifully towards the goal, but the crossbar prevented the dream goal. In the past few weeks, the North African has literally been waging a feud with Aluminum. Ghezzal has already failed several times against the crossbar or the post. Immediately afterwards, Milot Rashica’s (39th) shot hit the left post. In the final stages of the first half there was a scene between Husniddin Aliqulov and Muleka. Aliqulov played the ball in a situation that initially looked like a foul, but at the same time the ball jumped clearly to his free, slightly outstretched arm. The Besiktas players called for a penalty, but referee Ali Sansalan allowed play to continue after dialogue with the VAR referee. The first half ended a little later with 1:1.

Both teams show their “heads”

The second half began with a series of goals from the visiting team. Within five minutes, BJK goalkeeper Mert Günok had to intervene three times and defuse the opponent’s shots. In the 60th minute, Ucan found teammate Muleka with a chip pass at the penalty spot, the Congolese hit the ball with the back of his head, but Rize’s goalkeeper Cetin was paying attention and had the ball safely. A few moments later, Ghezzal broke through brilliantly on the left of the penalty area and crossed in front of the goal, where Rashica (65′) put Besiktas ahead 2-1 with his very first Süper Lig header and his fifth goal of the season. Just seconds later, Kilicsoy (67th) saw a yellow card. Because the 18-year-old exceptional talent was at his limit, Kilicsoy is suspended for the upcoming game in Alanya. Colley will also be missing due to suspension. Moments later it became even more bitter. Jonjo Shelvey took a set piece from the right side and central defender Emirhan Topcu (68th) headed the ball into the net to make it 2-2, despite Joe Worrall pulling hard on him.

Last minute win for Besiktas – Worrall with debut goal

In the 85th minute, Kilicsoy carefully passed a ball on to substitute Cenk Tosun, who made it into the penalty area and took a hard shot, but only hit the side netting. But in the last minute of injury time, Besiktas managed to score the strange winning goal. As a result of a stationary ball, Worrall initially got a header, which the defense blocked, but when he followed up, the Englishman pushed the ball towards the goal. Taha Sahin acrobatically fished the ball out of the box, but the ball had already completely crossed the goal line, so Besiktas celebrated a 3-2 victory in the very last breath. For Worrall it was the first goal ever for Besiktas. With the home win, Besiktas increased its number of points to 54 and improved to fourth place, at least for the time being, while Rizespor remains at 48 points and is currently in eighth place.
