Biden to the UN: “The EU is a fundamental partner for the US”

by admin

NEW YORK – “The EU is our key partner in addressing climate and security challenges”. This was stated by the American president Joe Biden at the UN, underlining that “the US is back at the table, once again engaged with Europe”. Today is Biden’s first speech at the UN as American president, something for which he said he was “honored”, and it comes in the midst of the crisis with France and the European Union following the decision of the USA, Great Britain and Australia and form a three-party defense deal.

The appeal launched by the American president is to work together to fight the pandemic, the climate emergency and defend human rights. The future depends on this, which is why the Biden administration says it is ready to open “a new era of diplomacy” after the end of the war in Afghanistan and to lead “the world towards a more peaceful future”. The era of the new diplomacy must support and defend democracy, and the United States is willing to cooperate with everyone, does not seek a new cold war and is ready to work with any nation that pursues peaceful decisions, in reference to China.

The United States will look forward instead of “continuing to fight the wars of the past” by focusing on dedicating resources to recent challenges such as the pandemic and the climate emergency. “Bombs and bullets cannot defend against Covid-19,” he said. “To fight this pandemic, we need a collective act of science and political will,” he added, assuring that the US has invested $ 15 billion in fighting the pandemic and shipped over 160 million doses of vaccines to 100 countries. In the fight against the climate emergency, however, Biden announced the United States‘ intention to double the contribution: “This will make the US a leader in financing,” he said, assuring that he will work with Congress for this goal.

“We choose to build a better future, we and you, we cannot afford to waste any more time. Let’s get to work, let’s build that better future now: we can do it, it’s in our power and in our abilities.” American President Joe Biden thus closed his first speech at the UN General Assembly after 34 minutes.
