Bodø/Glimt seconds away from sensation

The first meeting in Amsterdam was about to end with a dream result for the yellow jerseys. They opened disrespectfully and led 1-0 at half-time after Albert Grønbæk scored, and when the same man doubled the lead after the hour, Glimt looked set for a perfect result.

Towards the end, however, Ajax would be able to fight back. First they reduced the score on a penalty in the 90th minute, and with one more man they also managed to equalize 7 minutes into overtime. It was a sour ending for the northerners, but they will probably still be in good spirits before the return.

The knife on Ajax’s throat

The home team were cheered off the field at half-time in the first match, and the crisis seemed to be complete when they were suddenly two behind. They worked hard to recover, but the big club seems far from being fully fit before the trip north.

The weekend’s series round didn’t give a lift either, where they got a taste of their own medicine by conceding 2-2 five minutes into overtime at home against NEC Nijmegen. The pressure is really on the Dutch before the return meeting, who cannot tolerate another fade on the artificial turf in Bodø.

Can Glimt impress again at home?

Before the second match, Bodø/Glimt can rely on their solid home statistics. The team has won six of their last eight matches at Aspmyra in the context of the European Cup, and only suffered one loss.

Ajax, on the other hand, have won only one of their last seven away games in Europe, and lost five of them. The numbers bode well for Glimt before the return, can they stand for another peel and progress to the 8-part final?
