Bologna beat Sassuolo 4-2 at the Renato Dall’Ara stadium. The neroverdi took the lead in the 13th with Kristian Thorstvedt who intercepted a pass from Lukasz Skorupski and put it into the net. In the 24th minute the Bolognese equalized thanks to an own goal by Mattia Viti who deflected a great shot by Joshua Zirkzee.
In the 34th minute Sassuolo took the lead again thanks to a goal by Cristian Volpato assisted by Armand Laurienté. In the 73rd minute the rossoblù equalized with Giovanni Fabbian and in the 83rd the goal that overturned the result scored by Lewis Ferguson. In the 86th minute, Alexis Saelemaekers scores Bologna’s fourth goal.
Thiago Motta’s team rises to 36 points, 13 less than Milan and two more than Fiorentina. Sassuolo remains stationary at 19 points, tied with Udinese and one point ahead of Empoli.

The first half
In the 13th minute the Bologna goalkeeper, Skorupski, receives a back pass and tries to serve Freuler who, caught off guard, slips and is anticipated by Thorstvedt. The Norwegian, Sassuolo’s number 42, controls, kicks left-footed from the edge and scores with an aggressive diagonal shot: the Neroverdi have the lead.
A few minutes later, Zirkzee crosses into the six-yard box, but the Dutchman gets ahead of him. In the 21st minute Zirkzee goes away again dribbling the ball and unleashes an angled left-footed shot which misses the target.
At the 24th corner for Bologna from the right, the ball crosses a crowded area without anyone intercepting it, Zirkzee is on the path, lets it bounce on the ground, takes a first kick, deflection by Viti and the ball into the net. Then Zirkzee mimes the machine gun gesture. It’s the rossoblù draw.
Shortly after action by Volpato who goes on the run and shoots from the edge of the area, the Bolognese defense rejects, Thorstvedt tries to return it into the net but Skorupski saves.
At the 34th cross from Laurienté who changes direction for Volpato, the attacker is slightly late but gets there, controls, is tackled by Freuler but unleashes a left-footed shot with a deadly effect, Skorupski dives but is unable to catch it: Sassuolo again on the lead. Nice and fun first half. Sassuolo deservedly led 1-2, despite Zirkzee’s outbursts.

The second half
In the second half, in the 51st minute Pedersen’s solitary escape for Sassuolo, his shot ends up on the goal. Four minutes later Aebischer intervenes from behind on Bajrami, the referee shows the yellow card.
At the 66th corner kick for Bologna, Saelemaekers beats it, header by Ferguson and save by Boloca. On the following corner kicked by Orsolini, Calafiori goes to the conclusion but his shot is deflected.
In the 73rd minute Bologna forward, Kristansen’s cross, Fabbian heads higher than Viti and puts it in the corner: the Bologna team grabs the equalizer for the second time. In the 83rd Zirkzee serves Ferguson who controls, kicks left-footed and puts it into the net.
At the 86th cross from the left served by Lykogiannis, Tressoldi tries to clear, Saelemaekers takes possession of the ball, faces Boloca’s tackle, goes to the conclusion and scores the rossoblù’s fourth goal.

“I am very happy for the goal, but above all for the victory that had been missing for a while, it was important to win”, is the comment of Giovanni Fabbian, scorer of Bologna’s second goal, who adds: “Everyone must be ready to get involved disposition, in Milan I played as a tall winger. The important thing is to give your best and make yourself available. It wasn’t an easy match, but we did our best and held on as a great team.”
