BRASILIA – The Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro, was hospitalized to identify the cause of chronic hiccups. This was announced by the presidency, in what is the latest health alarm for the far-right leader, stabbed in the intestine during the election campaign in 2018.

Bolsonaro is in the Armed Forces hospital in Brasilia and is expected to remain under observation for 24-48 hours, but not necessarily hospitalized, according to the official statement.
Local media, such as the newspaper Or Balloon, had reported the president’s hospitalization explaining that he would have to undergo medical examinations for abdominal pain. In July last year, Bolsonaro contracted Covid-19 from which he then recovered. She appears to have had a severe cough in recent months and more recently suffered from chronic hiccups, which added to fears of her actual health.
