Madura United beat the host Borneo FC 4-0 in Week 31 of League 1 this season. Francisco Rivera became a star with one goal and three assists.

Playing at the Batakan Stadium, Wednesday (17/4/2024), Madura United opened the scoring in the 44th minute. Through a counter-attack, a one-two pass between Dalberto and Rivera was then passed to Malik Risaldi who was left facing Nadeo Arga Winata. In a 1 vs 1 situation, Malik successfully shook Borneo’s net.

In the second half, the visitors’ lead increased in the 52nd minute. This time it was Rivera who beat Nadeo after receiving Cleberson’s pass. Rivera then showed his class again by providing a pass to Hugo Gomes who scored the third goal in the 57th minute.

It didn’t stop there, Madura United added another goal in second half injury time. Rivera, who was left facing Nadeo, cleverly chose to pass to Bayu Gatra, who was freer. After outwitting Silverio Silva and Diego Michiels, Bayu fired a measured shot to find the home goal.

In this match, Madura United appeared more effective by releasing six shots on goal even though they only had 37 percent possession of the ball. Meanwhile, Borneo FC only had one shot on goal throughout the match.

This defeat did not change Borneo FC’s position at the top of the Liga 1 standings with 70 points. They have also locked their ticket to the Championship Series as the first seed.

Meanwhile for Madura United, this victory brought them to fourth place with 50 points, or the lower limit of the Championship Series zone. They are three points ahead of PSIS Semarang and Dewa United who are trailing behind.
