Palestinians in the Nuseirat neighborhood of central Gaza have returned to assess the devastating aftermath left behind by Israeli forces. Images captured by CNN show the extent of the destruction, with buildings reduced to rubble and residents desperately salvaging possessions from their damaged homes.
Residents described the scene as resembling an earthquake, with homes demolished and essential services such as water and sanitation systems destroyed. According to Palestinian officials, at least 500 people were killed, injured, or went missing during the Israeli attacks on the area.
One resident, a doctor named Hassan Al Habbash, expressed his shock at returning to find his house completely destroyed. Another woman described the destruction as a reflection of hate and anger, as she sorted through belongings buried in debris.
The residents of Nuseirat are now left to rebuild their lives amidst the devastation and loss caused by the recent conflict. The Israeli military’s involvement in the attacks and the extent of the damage caused are still being investigated.
