Four people, including a child, were killed in the Italian night in an office building in Southern California, police announced. The shooter, whose motives are unknown so far, was shot by an officer and taken to hospital but his condition was not disclosed. The police did not release any further information on the victims; a fifth person is also in hospital.
The shooting began around 5:30 pm local time (2:30 am in Italy) on the top floor of a small office building in the city of Orange between agents and the suspect, according to the Los Angeles Times. “The situation has been stabilized and there is no threat to the public,” writes the Orange Police Department in a post on its Facebook page.
California Governor Gavin Newsom tweeted, “Horrible and heartbreaking. Our hearts are with the families affected by this terrible tragedy tonight.”
“I am deeply saddened by the news of a mass shooting in Orange County, and I continue to keep the victims and their loved ones in my thoughts as we continue to learn more,” US representative from California Katie Porter also tweeted.
