(Fighting New Coronary Pneumonia) Cambodia enters a new stage of anti-epidemic and accelerates economic recovery

China News Service, Phnom Penh, November 14 (Reporter Ouyang Kaiyu) As the new crown epidemic slows down, the Cambodian government has officially implemented the “coexistence with the new crown virus” strategy to accelerate the return of the economy to the track of high-speed growth in the past.

According to a report from the Cambodian Ministry of Health on the 14th, 55 new confirmed cases of new coronary pneumonia (PCR test results) were reported in the country that day. Of the newly confirmed cases, 6 were imported cases, 62 were cured and 6 died (4 cases have not been vaccinated). As of the morning of November 14, a total of 119,000 cases have been diagnosed in Cambodia, a total of 115,000 cases have been cured, and a total of 2,867 cases have died.

With the slowing of the new crown epidemic, Cambodia will fully reopen the country from November 1st, and all walks of life will be fully restored. If a patient is diagnosed with new coronary pneumonia and only needs to seek medical treatment, the government will no longer forcefully close factories, markets, and communities involved in the epidemic. On the evening of the 13th, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen announced the launch of the “Strategy for a New Normal Life Under the New Coronary Pneumonia Epidemic”, a total of 36 pages. Hun Sen said that this strategy will help the country speed up its economic recovery.

Hun Sen said that as of November 9 this year, children and adults over the age of 6 who have completed two doses of vaccinations account for 82% of the national population. He thanked China and other countries for providing Cambodia with the new crown vaccine, which enabled Cambodia to build a herd immunity barrier at the end of October this year, and finally reopened the country on November 1 and fully restored all walks of life.

Hun Sen said that although more than 80% of the population has completed the vaccination, the current infection rate has fallen sharply and the epidemic has been basically under control, but it is impossible to completely eliminate the virus in Cambodia. Therefore, Cambodia needs to adapt to the new normal and promote the economic recovery from the epidemic.

Hun Sen emphasized that the two-year epidemic crisis has seriously affected the country’s public health and economic and social activities. Now is the best time to fully reopen the country and fully restore all walks of life. We must get out of the epidemic crisis, and while protecting the health and safety of the people, we must also allow the economy to return to the track of high-speed growth in the past.

Hun Sen pointed out that the full recovery of all walks of life means that the risk of outbreak or spread of the epidemic will increase. In order to minimize the risk of the epidemic, Cambodia must maintain immunity to the new coronavirus, especially in response to the mutant virus. Therefore, the competent authority will continue to track and evaluate the effectiveness of the vaccine in order to adjust the vaccination campaign or other necessary measures.

The “Strategy for a New Normal Life Under the New Coronary Pneumonia Epidemic” pointed out that Cambodia’s new coronavirus nucleic acid testing capacity has been continuously improved. Up to now, there are 16 laboratories across the country that process 7000 to 8000 nucleic acid samples every day. During the severe period of the epidemic, a maximum of 10,000 to 12,000 nucleic acid samples can be processed daily.

As of now, 79 hospitals and 145 treatment centers across Cambodia are treating patients with the new crown. There are 1,626 ICU beds in government hospitals and medical centers, and the government has vacated 702 beds in preparation for receiving patients. (over)
