In this session, Marl carnivalists can dress up and put on as much make-up as they want – as soon as the “castle crumbs” get started, they steal the show. This is the youngest dance troupe of the Marl carnival club Sternburger. “The girls have rehearsed a completely new program and have been really excited since this morning,” says Nicole Prinz-Stojek. When the club chairwoman announced the children in the St. Barbara parish home, no one had any idea what was about to happen. To the DJ’s playback, the little preschool-aged castle crumbs dance and sing “Samba, Rumba and Cha-Cha-Cha – like in South America”. And in such a sweet way that the thunderous applause and a “rocket” that followed are more than deserved. But from the beginning.

Alternative option

Because the city’s town hall is still a construction site, the popular storming of the town hall on Weiberfastnacht will take place for the second time in the St. Barbara parish hall on Bachackerweg. The traditional start is at 11:11 a.m. Before Mayor Werner Arndt hands over the golden key, there is another debate with Nicole Prinz-Stojek. Only after the handover can the party officially begin.

After last year he was dressed as the plumber Super Mario, this time Werner Arndt appears as Atreyu. If you don’t remember: Indian boy Atreju is the main character in Michael Ende’s novel “The Neverending Story”, which was made into a film 40 years ago. On the city’s new town hall storming order, the title can also be read above a motif from the planned Marschall 66 cultural center. If you also think about the delayed town hall construction site, the self-critical reference is perfectly chosen.

The “castle crumbs” are followed by other highlights in the parish hall, such as the appearance of the Sternburger dance guard, a speech by the King of Fools and the awarding of medals to the Marler Zeitung employees reporting live on site as well as the “hosts” Pastor Ulrich Müller and pastoral advisor Wilhelm Heek and Sister Aloysiana from St. Francis Parish. Of course, the 88-year-old doesn’t miss the opportunity to tell a slightly raunchy joke. Much to the delight of the audience, by the way. The almost 150 spectators are spread out in front of the stage as well as on the beer table sets. If the music is right – for example with “Rot, Rot Sind Die Rosen” by the Höhner, the guests join in and sway.

With the end of the event in the forest settlement, the carnival hustle and bustle is not yet over for the Jecken. At around 1 p.m. the caravan moves on to the Bauer media house. Here the Sternburgers, together with members of the Colonia local history association and other fools, pay a visit to the editorial team of the Marler Zeitung.

In a relaxed atmosphere, the “Burgkrümel” once again show their skills and, as before in the rectory, allow themselves to be persuaded to do an encore. In conversations with club members and “outsiders” it quickly becomes clear that the desire for carnival in Marl is unbridled. Colonia chairman Jörg Terlinden points out that there are a striking number of events, especially for children. Günter Koytek from the Sternburgers lives in Dorsten, but he looks forward to all the events in Marl and attends as many of them as possible. “Last year I was part of the move in Sickingmühle for the first time. “That was really great,” enthuses Günter Koytek.

Samba, Rumba, Cha-Cha-Cha

The four women dressed as “multi-women” don’t want to miss the parade either. “We’re definitely there,” says one of the “multi-women”. The quartet impresses with the most beautiful costumes in the media house. But the “castle crumbs” are stealing the show today. With Samba, Rumba and Cha-Cha-Cha. Alaaf and Helau!
