Marcelo Courrege, 42 years old, and Carol Barcellos, 42, sports journalists at TV Globo, started dating by going together to watch the first night of parades of the Special Group of samba schools in Rio de Janeiro, on Sunday, 11. The reason is because Courrege was married to Renata Heilborn, also a Globo journalist, and Carol, his current partner, was the bridesmaid at the former couple’s wedding. Marcelo and Renata had been married since 2014, but the relationship came to an end last year.
Renata, after realizing that the new romance had become public, decided to speak out on social media, accusing her ex of betrayal. “I was married for ten years — in total, there were 12 years of relationship. First point: my marriage was not open. Let this be very clear. Second: I found out in the worst way possible that my ex-husband was having an affair with a friend of mine — the godmother at my wedding. At a time when I was fragile, after resigning from TV Globo, I discovered that he was with a friend — one of those confidants that I spent time with on a daily basis. It took me a while to get better, to recover from the disappointment. A friend’s betrayal opens a much deeper hole. But it was not an option to stop living. I didn’t deserve this.”
