The home team wreaked havoc with a toothless away team, but after just over 60 minutes an absurd situation arose.
Cole Palmer was awarded a penalty, and has been the team’s reliable penalty taker this season.
But teammates Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke wanted to take the penalty themselves. There was therefore a massive argument between the three stars, who almost refused to give up.
– You rarely see so much arguing in a penalty situation. These are embarrassing pictures, were Viaplay expert Lars Tjærnås’ observations.
It ended with Palmer getting to take it himself, knocking in his fourth of the game.
Four Palmer goals
Cole Palmer excels for Chelsea at home against Everton in the Premier League on Monday. After only 29 minutes, he had scored three goals.
The three goals came in just 16 minutes, before he tapped in his fourth from the penalty spot halfway through the second half.
The young Briton has thus far scored 20 goals in the league this season. It is the same with Norwegian Erling Braut Haaland.
– He is in such hysterical shape that I struggle to draw parallels to anyone other than Lionel Messi, Viaplay expert Petter Veland said on the channel’s broadcast.
He elaborated by pointing out that the Briton had delivered a completely flawless innings, and that Palmer also has wild numbers to show for the last time.
It took just 13 minutes for Palmer to tap in his first goal with his left foot. The goal came after lovely collaboration with striker Nicolas Jackson.
And just five minutes later, the same duo were in action again. Then it was Jackson who went for the shot, but once again Palmer put the ball in the goal when Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford saved, but had to return.
Just before half an hour had been played, Palmer and Pickford again came into focus. The goalkeeper sent the ball straight into the legs of the two-goal scorer after a weak play, and the left-footed Palmer responded by knocking in his hat-trick from around 30 meters with his right foot.
– It is absolutely crazy what the 22-year-old is doing here, commented Andreas Toft on Viaplay.
Slaughtered Everton
The aforementioned Jackson made it 4-0 just before the break in what turned out to be a nightmare period for an Everton side struggling in the relegation battle.
– It is almost sensational the way they have broken up now. I would say it is embarrassing, based on the level they otherwise have in the defensive game.
The Liverpool club has been deducted a total of eight points this season for breaching the Premier League’s financial rules. The last two points have been appealed.
Everton are actually the team that has conceded the fourth fewest of all in the Premier League this season.
