Chris Christie has withdrawn from the Republican Party primaries for the US presidential elections

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Wednesday He retired from the primaries of the Republican Party for the next US presidential elections. The news had been anticipated by many press outlets, and was confirmed by Christie during an event in New Hampshire, where the primary elections will take place on January 23rd. “It is clear that I have no chance of winning the nomination, and therefore this evening I am suspending my campaign for president of the United States,” she said.

Christie had announced his intention to run last June, but his election campaign never really took off: before his withdrawal, surveys they gave him 3.6 percent, fourth place out of five candidates. He had presented himself as the only one truly critical of former president Donald Trump, who remains the clear favorite in the internal party competition and, barring any major surprises, should obtain the nomination for the presidential elections in November.

At the moment the polls give Trump over 60 percent of the votes: followed, at a great distance, by the governor of Florida Ron DeSantis (12.5 percent) and the former governor of South Carolina and former ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley (11.5 percent). In the state of New Hampshire though Haley seems to be well ahead of DeSantis, and it is possible that Christie’s retirement favors her further.

The Republican primaries will begin on January 15, next Monday, in Iowa.
