On Thursday night, the second phase of Libertadores has come to an end. Colo-Colo was the last club to qualify for the third phase of the competition after playing out a goalless draw with Godoy Cruz at the Monumental David Arellano Stadium. The Chilean team advanced after winning the first game 1-0.
Now, Colo-Colo is looking for a place in the group stage of the competition. The Chilean club will face Sportivo Trinidense, from Paraguay, who beat El Nacional-EQU 2-1 on aggregate this Thursday.
The two teams return to the pitch for their respective national leagues this Sunday. Colo-Colo hosts Huachipato, starting at 6 pm (Brasília time), at David Arellano, for the third round of the Chilean Championship.
On the other hand, Godoy Cruz enters the field a little earlier. At 5 pm, the team will face Estudiantes, at home, in the tenth round of the first phase of the Argentine Championship. The duel takes place at the Feliciano Gambarte Stadium.
The game
The first big chance of the match came after 12 minutes. After a free kick, goalkeeper Petroli came out to clear it. In the end, Bolados finished first and sent the ball towards the Argentine team’s post. On the second rebound, Vidal called for a penalty after the ball hit the rival player, but the referee ordered it to continue.
At 17 minutes, it was Godoy Cruz’s turn to scare. Opazo was unable to cut and the ball was left at the edge of the area. Cejas arrived with a strong finish, but goalkeeper Cortés made the save.
With 44 minutes, Colo-Colo almost opened the score again. After a corner kick, Falcón rose higher than Godoy Cruz’s defense at the first post. The player managed to head the ball, but the ball hit goalkeeper Petroli’s right post.
After the break, Godoy Cruz started to put pressure on to break the tie. After lifting the right side of the penalty area, Cevas dominated the chest and finished first time, but went wide.
Despite the final pressure, Godoy Cruz failed to score and, with that, Colo-Colo secured a place in the third phase of the Libertadores.
