In the 27th round of the championship, FC Blau-Weiß Linz visited SCR Altach. The Vorarlbergers were in ninth place in the table and seemed to have practically managed to stay in the league. Our team, on the other hand, wanted to finally get a “threesome” again after twelve games without complete success and also take a big step towards staying in the league. Coach Gerald Scheiblehner made two changes to the starting lineup. Noß and Ronivaldo started again from the beginning.
In cold, wet weather, visitors to the Cashpoint Arena got off to a very slow start. Altach tried to lure Linz out of their own half with a lot of possession, but our team hardly allowed anything and showed more courage in the game after around 20 minutes. Chances to score were in short supply and the discipline on both sides was too great. The Royal Blues still liked the more active team after half an hour and then had a good opportunity. After Mensah’s preparatory work, Seidl narrowly missed the ball in the center.
Shortly before the break, our opponents took the lead out of nowhere! Pirkl received the ball while tackling in the penalty area – the situation was examined for a long time, but referee Harkam’s penalty whistle stood. Bähre didn’t miss the chance and made it 1-0.
Practically in return, the penalty whistle was given in the Altacher penalty area after Ronivaldo was brought down by Koller in violation of the rules and the Brazilian also didn’t miss the chance and scored the 1-1 equalizer with his seventh goal of the season. A little later we went into the dressing rooms with this score.
The first excitement in the second section was Altach taking the lead again! After a free kick, Schmid was unable to make a decisive clearance; substitute Bahloul scored with control to make it 2-1. But the Linz team quickly shook themselves off and had a great chance to equalize in the 55th minute. Mensah only narrowly slipped past after good preparatory work by Noß and a little later it happened. After a corner and some nice preparatory work from Mensah, Seidl was there with a header and equalized the score at 2-2 in the 60th minute. Big cheers from our team, who now wanted more!
The final phase was a single open exchange of blows with few opportunities on both sides. The respect for defeat is too great again. In the end, both teams split with a fair 2-2 draw. Since Lustenau also scored a point at the WAC, everything remained the same in the relegation battle.
