Daniel Huber outclasses the competition at the World Cup final in Planica

Daniel Huber flies to victory in a superior manner at the World Cup final in Planica. While the Slovenians celebrate Domen’s podium and Peter Prevc’s farewell, the Germans are in the supporting role.

This man was simply unstoppable this weekend in Planica: Daniel Huber flew in an impressive and superior manner at the World Cup final on 247 and 242.5 meters and won the day with 487.7 points. At his biggest brother’s farewell party, Domen Prevc came second with 233 and 238 meters and 444.3 points. Third place went to Poland’s Aleksander Zniszczol with 237 and 237.5 meters and 438.1 points.

“It’s amazing, another perfect day. It’s been a long road for me, but finishing the season like this is something really big for me. Thanks to everyone who helped get me and the team up and running. “It’s hard to put into words,” said Huber after his sixth World Cup victory. His lead over the runner-up is a whopping 43.4 points, the fourth highest in the history of the Ski Jumping World Cup.

DSV Adler only in supporting roles

Huber’s compatriot Stefan Kraft came fourth ahead of Zniszczol’s teammate Piotr Zyla, who was able to gain five places with his second attempt at 240 meters. Peter Prevc came sixth in his last career competition and was farewelled with a 15-minute ceremony after the award ceremony. The Norwegian trio of Robert Johansson, Johann Andre Forfang and Marius Lindvik landed in seventh to ninth place. Lovro Kos, the third best Slovenian, completed the top ten.

The strong Austrian team result was completed by Daniel Tschofenig, Manuel Fettner and Michael Hayböck in positions eleven, twelve and 15. Between Fettner and Hayböck, the two best Germans, Pius Paschke and Andreas Wellinger, landed in positions 13 and 14. Karl Geiger took place 22, Stephan Leyhe was 27th.

Jan Hörl will not take part in the World Cup final

However, only 29 and not 30 athletes were included in the rankings on this Sunday morning. Around an hour and a half before the start of the competition, the Austrian Jan Hörl announced that he would not be taking part. “I had a great season and the victory at Bergisel and also in Lahti this year was amazing. Now that I’m ski flying I’m not really getting going anymore. Maybe the air has already gone out a bit. But when ski flying you have to be 100% safe. That’s why I and the coaches decided to skip the last competition today,” said the fourth overall World Cup winner.

This marks the end of the 2023/2024 World Cup season. Stefan Kraft won the overall World Cup with 2149 points ahead of Ryoyu Kobayashi (1673) and Andreas Wellinger (1488). The Nations Cup goes to Austria (8149) ahead of Slovenia (5142) and Germany (5022).

The winner of the Ski Flying World Cup is Daniel Huber with 429 points, just three points ahead of Stefan Kraft (426) and Peter Prevc (382). Huber also secured the special ranking Planica 7 and thus the prize money of 20,000 Swiss francs.
