British actor Bernard Hill, who notably played supporting roles in the hit films “Titanic” and “The Lord of the Rings”, died Sunday at the age of 79, his agent announced.
The general public mainly knew Bernard Hill for his role as Titanic captain Edward Smith in the eponymous film by James Cameron released in 1997 and a global success.
The actor had also played the king of Rohan Théoden in the trilogy adapted from “The Lord of the Rings”, released in the early 2000s, and played numerous supporting roles, notably in “At the Sources of the Nile”, by Rob Rafelson (1990 ) or “Judged Guilty” (1999), by Clint Eastwood.
Revealed in the early 1980s for his role as an unemployed man in the multi-award winning television series “Boys from the Blackstuff”, Bernard Hill also had a prolific career on British television.
