Di Maio in Congo: “Let’s strengthen the energy partnership”. And on the war in Ukraine: “Glimmers for a diplomatic solution”

«I can confirm to you, in the light of today’s meeting with the President of the Congolese Republic Denis Sassou N’Guesso, that our countries will strengthen their energy partnership. After Algeria and Qatar, this is another important piece of news. Another step forward that allows us to consolidate the Italian energy security plan ».

Minister Luigi Di Maio writes it on Fb. «We will carry out new projects to diversify the energy supply. I want to thank Eni and CEO Claudio Descalzi for their hard work. The entire Italian government is committed to making our country increasingly independent from Russian gas ». Also on his social media channel, the Foreign Minister underlined the work that the government is carrying out on the front of energy independence. «The entire Italian government is committed to facing the effects of the war wanted by Putin, making our country increasingly independent from Russian gas. While the EU is discussing the new and fundamental measures to mitigate the increases in gas, we are moving forward putting the protection of Italian families and businesses in the first place ». Then, on the diplomatic front working to stop the bombing: «Meanwhile, small signals are coming from the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine: this pushes us to pursue a diplomatic solution that can lead us to peace. The diplomatic mission does not stop there, tomorrow I will be in Angola. There is not a moment to lose, we cannot afford it ».
