The series ‘Baby Reindeer’launched by Netflix, has already reached 3rd position among the most viewed productions on the platform in the last week. The story, based on real events, portrays the case in which Scottish actor and comedian Richard Gadd was victim of a stalker and sexual predator in her early 20s.

He himself plays Donny Dunn in the series, a man who becomes Martha’s obsession. The two work in the same bar, arousing a suffocating interest in her, which begins to torment the man.

The real case was experienced by himself Richard Gadd. The actor reports having been pursued by a woman for four years in a row, receiving messages and even seeing her presence at some of his shows.

“At first, everyone in the pub thought it was funny that I had an admirer,” he commented in an interview with The Times. The nickname the woman gave her was ‘Baby Rena’ and, in addition, she was responsible for harassment with 41,071 emails, 350 hours of voice messages, 744 tweets, 46 Facebook messages and 106 pages of cards.

“She started invading my space, following me, showing up at my shows, waiting outside my house, sending thousands of email messages and voice messages”, added the artist.

Gadd explains that the woman even tried to get his attention with several gifts, including a stuffed reindeer, referencing the nickname given to him, sleeping pills, a wool hat and underwear, such as pajamas and boxer briefs.

Now, with the series, he argues that the intention is to repudiate abusive behavior of this type, highlighting that obsessive fans can become “maniacs little by little”.

“Stalking is a mental illness. I really wanted to show the layers of stalking with a human quality that I hadn’t seen on television before. It’s a stalking story turned upside down,” he added in an interview with Netflix.
