Around the turn of the year, Alisha Lehmann announced her romantic comeback with Douglas Luiz. Now the Seleção star is giving private insights into his relationship with the Swiss international in a very personal interview with the Daily Mail.
“People say we are like a celebrity couple, but we are completely normal,” says Luiz. Like other couples, he and Lehmann would go out to eat, go bowling or go shopping. «I’m more of a househusband anyway. But of course I would also like to do a few social things with her,” adds the Brazilian.
Lehmann helped him learn English
Although Luiz has been playing for Aston Villa in Birmingham since 2019, he struggled with the language at the beginning of his time in England. Thanks to his girlfriend, this problem was solved. “My English has improved a lot thanks to Alisha,” says the man with a market value of around 70 million francs.
Shortly after Lehmann also moved to Aston Villa in 2021, the two met. “For the first two years I couldn’t speak English, but then I met her and now I have to be able to,” says the 25-year-old. At the beginning of the relationship, he couldn’t even have had a proper argument with his partner because of the language barrier.
Luiz needed his cell phone to argue
Luiz was bothered by not being able to defend himself in disagreements with Lehmann. This has now changed. “If we have a dispute, we can resolve it immediately. Before, I had to use my phone to translate everything from Portuguese to English!»
In the interview, the Brazilian was impressed by the Bernese woman’s language skills. In addition to German, French and English, Lehmann would now also be able to speak Portuguese and Swedish. When it comes to the latter language, Luiz may have meant Swiss German rather than Swedish.
However, one topic is taboo in the Lehmann-Luiz household. According to the Daily Mail report, the dream couple should not talk about football in their own four walls. In the stadium, the two Aston Villa stars support each other as often as possible. In March, the Swiss even flew to Amsterdam by private jet to support her sweetheart at the game against Ajax.
