(CNN Spanish) — The Ecuadorian Police reported that they found the lifeless bodies of the mayor of the San Vicente canton, province of Manabí, Brigitte García, and her companion, identified as Jairo L. The remains were discovered inside a vehicle with gunshot wounds and no vital signs.
Specialized and criminalistic units are currently collecting ballistic evidence and working to determine the modality and motive of the incident.
Former President Rafael Correa expressed his condolences for the alleged murder on his social media.
