Almost two years after his arrest, the hour of truth has come for Patrick Zaki. The Egyptian student from the University of Bologna appears this morning before the judges of Mansoura, a city north of Cairo in the Nile Delta, to answer for the accusation of spreading false and harmful news against the Egyptian state. After granting him probation in December, the judge will now have to decide whether to close his case by acquitting him or commuting a sentence equal to the 22 months he has already served in pre-trial detention: and therefore letting him go.
