El Clásico – Disappointing news
  • Real Madrid – Barcelona 3 – 2 (1 – 1), the fight is on!

Real Madrid and Barcelona meet for El Clásico number 257 at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday evening.

It was a dramatic battle between the two giants.

Five goals, VAR drama, penalty situations and ugly injury were some of the talking points that were served during the 90 minutes in the Spanish capital.

In extra time, Jude Bellingham, as so many times before, was in the right place at the right time and decided El Clásico at home in Madrid.

Three points means that Real Madrid steer towards another league title with only six games left to play. Barcelona have eleven points up on their rivals.

Nasty pictures

Before the break, Barcelona fans witnessed ugly images when their Dutch midfield star Frenkie de Jong (26) went down for the count.

The 26-year-old was clearly in pain and buried his face in his hands as the medical staff entered the pitch.

– It does not look good with Frenkie de Jong, because it is the same ankle that he has struggled with this season. We’ll see what it turns out to be, but from his reaction, I think it’s something serious. A pity, writes Toni Juanmartí, journalist in Spanish Sport Twitter/X.

The same man comes with another message a few minutes later.

– Frenkie De Jong has a serious sprain. We will see what happens when the tests are completed.

– It is the third injury to Frenkie De Jong’s right ankle this season, writes Spanish journalist Helena Condis Edo on Twitter/X.

“Frenkie alarm: The season may be over”, writes the Spanish AS.

Dream start

Barcelona got off to a dream start when Andreas Christensen took the lead for the away team.

– There are mistakes upon mistakes at Real Madrid, points out TV 2’s commentator Peder Mørdtvedt.

But the joy was short-lived.

Not many minutes later, Real Madrid were awarded a penalty after Lucas Vasquez showed great details inside the penalty area.

– They are back, and it didn’t take long, commented TV 2’s Peder Mørtvedt.

Then it became dramatic again later in the half. VAR had to intervene when the Barcelona players believed the ball had crossed the goal line.

La Liga does not have goal-line technology, so there were some dramatic minutes when the ball danced along the line after a corner.

Andrey Lunin poked the ball out and the TV pictures could not show that the ball had crossed the goal line, so it was 1-1 at half-time.

In the second half, youngster Fermin Lopez first sent the away team back into the lead after rebounding from Lamine Yamal’s shot.

But this time the joy was even more short-lived.

Minutes later, Lucas Vasquez equalized for Real Madrid and in overtime Jude Bellingham scored the 3-2 goal which by a long way secures Real Madrid the series gold in La Liga.
