Enem 2024: Deadline begins to request exemption from registration fee — National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira

Those interested in taking the National High School Exam (Enem) 2024 for free can now request an exemption from the registration fee. The National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep) will receive requests until April 26th. Participants in the Pé-de-Meia program, run by the Ministry of Education (MEC), are entitled to exemption.

The deadline also applies to those who need to justify their absence from the 2023 edition. The schedule, which includes the appeals phase, and the rules were established in a notice, available on the Inep portal. The procedures must be carried out through the Participant’s Page, with the unique Gov.br login. Anyone who doesn’t remember their account password can recover it using the platform’s own instructions.

You have the right to take the Enem for free:

  • Who is enrolled in the 3rd year of high school (this year 2024), in a public school;
  • Those who completed their entire secondary education in a public school or as a full scholarship holder in a private school;
  • People in a situation of socioeconomic vulnerability due to being from a low-income family – registered in the Single Registry for federal government social programs (CadÚnico).

Justification for absence – Anyone who did not attend the two days of Enem in 2023 must justify their absence if they want to participate in the 2024 edition for free.

Nest egg – The student in the 3rd year of high school (public school) who attends the two days of Enem 2024 (including possible reapplication) will be entitled to an incentive of R$ 200. The amount will be deposited, upon completion of this educational stage, in the savings account in which the student receives other program incentives.

Enem – The National High School Exam evaluates students’ academic performance at the end of basic education. Over more than two decades of existence, Enem has become the main gateway to higher education in Brazil, through the Unified Selection System (Sisu) and initiatives such as the University for All Program (Prouni).

Public and private educational institutions use Enem to select students. The results are used as a sole or complementary criterion for selection processes, in addition to serving as a parameter for access to government aid, such as that provided by the Student Financing Fund (Fies).

Individual Enem results can also be used in the selection processes of Portuguese institutions that have an agreement with Inep to accept exam scores. The agreements guarantee easy access to grades for Brazilian students interested in pursuing higher education in Portugal.
