On Saturday, International Holocaust Remembrance Day will be celebrated in the Czech Republic, as in many other countries. At the TerezĆn / Theresienstadt Memorial, for example, there will be a candlelight parade again. It begins at the former loading dock from which tens of thousands of ghetto prisoners had to travel to the extermination camps. The event will be attended by, among others, the head of the memorial, Jan RoubĆnek, and the Vice-Chairman of the European Commission, VÄra JourovĆ”.
A meeting also takes place at the castle of MladĆ” Boleslav / Jungbunzlau. This was used to intern Jews from the area between 1940 and 1943. The names of the victims will be read out at the event.
On January 27, 1945, the Auschwitz concentration camp was liberated. That is why this date has been chosen in many countries as a day of remembrance of the Holocaust and the prevention of crimes against humanity.
