“It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved son, Darius Aaron Morris,” said the official statement from the family of Kobe Bryant’s former Lakers teammate, who was killed in a helicopter crash in January 2020 along with his daughter and others .
Morris’ family initially did not provide any information about the exact cause of death.
In addition to his time with the LA Lakers, Morris also played in the NBA for the Philadelphia 76ers, the Memphis Grizzlies and the Brooklyn Nets.
Morris was drafted by the Lakers in the second round in 2011 after playing for the University of Michigan. He then played alongside Bryant in Los Angeles for two seasons.
After his career in the NBA, he also played professionally in China, Russia and France.
