Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – EXO’s Baekhyun is receiving various comments from netizens after he held his birthday event at a cafe.
Fans lined up in the morning to receive entry numbers to the event which started at 10.30 local time.
According to people who saw it, the queue was so long that business owners in the area complained that their operations were disrupted. Most netizens showed mixed reactions to Baekhyun’s event.
An idol holding a birthday cafe event is considered just for profit. What’s more, the food and drinks served at Baekhyun’s birthday cafe had fantastic prices. Netizens also gave harsh comments if Baekhyun was just blackmailing his fans.
Apart from his birthday event which drew criticism from netizens, the following is a series of controversies that Baekhyun has experienced.
1. His words were related to depression
On December 30 2017 at his fansign event, Baekhyun responded to stories about his fans who were experiencing depression.
“Many people say that they have been depressed, if I’m honest, I don’t understand why people can suffer from depression or insomnia,” said Baekhyun EXO as reported by Allkpop.
However, his response actually sparked controversy from netizens and received a lot of criticism.
2. Mentioned in a Twitter tweet
On October 30 2020, Baekhyun and Chanyeol’s names were dragged into a controversy caused by someone’s tweet on Twitter.
The account owner admitted that he was Chanyeol’s ex and was often cheated on by him, he even said that Baekhyun and Chanyeol had a bad relationship.
Exactly 12 hours after the post was uploaded, Baekhyun made a sarcasm in his tweet.
“No, but really… who is this acquaintance of mine? (Is there a mosquito, hit) This little creature,” said Baekhyun.
3. Controversy with SM Entertainment
In early June 2023, Chen, Baekhyun, Xiumin (CBX) have applied for termination of their contracts with SM Entertainment due to alleged abuse and unfair contract terms.
However, SM Entertainment denied the claims made by the three and accused someone from outside of persuading the artists to violate the terms of their contracts.
4. Take a loan
Baekhyun founded his own agency called I&B100 on June 23 2023. Even though he is a famous and successful idol, apparently he took a loan of IDR 154 billion to set up his agency.
5. Smoking
Baekhyun appeared in a post by his friend, James “Tiny” Kim on his personal Instagram on September 7 2023. The photo shows Baekhyun posing, but there is a pack of cigarettes on the table. This immediately received a lot of speculation from netizens if Baekhyun smoked.
6. Agency security
Several fans shared videos outside the I&B100 building showing the agency’s trainees entering through the main door.
After entering the building, the trainees left the door open, so fans could get a glimpse of the agency’s interior.
When the video was uploaded, instead of focusing on the people in the video, netizens were concerned about the lack of security and privacy in the building.
It may be a simple act, but leaving the door open even for a moment can be dangerous for the artists inside, whether it’s CBX or the trainees.
