Cubarsí threw himself to the ground in a duel with goalkeeper Augusto Batalla in the penalty area during the 3-3 draw. There was no contact visible in the TV pictures, so journalist Paco Gonzalez, among others, accused the young defender of a swallow.
Gonzalez described Cubarsí’s actions as “pathetic.”
Gavi, who has been missing from Barça injured since November and watched the draw against Granada from the stands, took this as an opportunity to counter the journalist and defend Cubarsí: “You are pathetic, be smart Paco,” the 19-year-old midfield star wrote in the direction of the journalist.
Cubarsí, who only celebrated his 17th birthday at the end of January, made his debut for Barcelona’s first team a few weeks ago.
So far, the homegrown player has appeared on the pitch a total of seven times for the Xavi team.
