Container fire in Mengede threatened to spread to goods trade
Wednesday (May 1st), 10:20 a.m.: The Dortmund fire department was on “Kammerstück” street in the district on Tuesday evening Oestrich been called to put out a container fire. “It turned out on site that there was a fire inside a paper press next to a goods store,” the emergency services said today.
The sales hall remained undamaged and there were no injuries. The volunteer fire department helped remove the pressed paper from the container and put out the embers. A total of 19 emergency services were on duty for over three hours.
Car crashes into light rail – traffic on one line interrupted
Tuesday (April 30th), 12:59 p.m.: A serious traffic accident between a car and a subway has led to a complete blockage of the B1 at the Vosskuhle intersection in Dortmund. The tram blocked the traffic routes between Dortmund Hörde and Körne; the passengers had to be evacuated.
The badly damaged station wagon showed significant front damage. According to initial information from the Dortmund police, there are no injuries. The accident also paralyzed operations on the U47 between Dortmund Mitte and Aplerbeck, leading to significant traffic jams.
Fire under bridge paralyzes traffic
Tuesday (April 30th), 11:01 a.m.: On Monday evening around 6 p.m., the Dortmund fire department was called to a fire under a disused railway bridge in the north city center. Flames and smoke were visible from a height of around 10 meters, where various tents and mattresses were burning. Two crews wearing breathing apparatus and a turntable ladder were used to fight the fire.
The incident led to the temporary closure of the railway lines from Dortmund main station to Lünen and the subway line 44 to Borsigplatz. Road traffic was also affected and the tram overhead lines had to be grounded. The operation lasted around 2.5 hours and around 30 firefighters, THW and rescue services were involved. The stability of the bridge was checked, but the all-clear was quickly given.
Next arrest in cold case – woman suspected of murder
Tuesday (April 30th), 8:29 a.m.: The case remained dormant for 33 years. Heike Kötting from Dortmund was found dead in her own home in 1991. There was no trace of the perpetrator or perpetrators. The breakthrough came in January 2024: a suspect was arrested. Now the next search success followed.
According to the Dortmund police, investigations led to the arrest of a 62-year-old woman from Mönchengladbach. She was arrested at her husband’s apartment. At the request of the Dortmund public prosecutor’s office, an arrest warrant for murder was issued.
