Actress Gina Carano filed a lawsuit against Disney and Lucasfilm this Tuesday (6), alleging that she was unfairly fired from ‘The Mandalorian’ em 2021.

The dismissal came after a post on social media in which the actress compared being a Republican to being Jewish during the Holocaust. The lawsuit, filed in California federal court, accuses the companies of wrongful termination and discrimination, demanding that Carano be reinstated to the cast and receive at least $75,000 in punitive damages.

Elon Musk is financing the process, with the justification of a promise made to support legal actions by individuals who allege discrimination due to posts on X (formerly Twitter). However, the publications that led to Carano’s dismissal were made on another social network, Instagram.

Without worrying about this detail, Joe Benarroch, head of commercial operations at X Corp., stated in a statement: “As a sign of X Corp.’s commitment to free speech, we are proud to provide financial support to Gina Carano’s lawsuit, empowering her to pursue reclaiming her free speech rights at X and the ability to work without bullying , harassment or discrimination.”

Carano’s character in ‘The Mandalorian’ was Cara Dune, a rebel soldier who becomes a mercenary. She was prominent in the first two seasons of the series shown on Disney+.

The actress faced immediate criticism when she shared her controversial post on Instagram in February 2021, comparing the Holocaust to political persecution suffered by the right in the USA. On the same day, Lucasfilm and UTA, Carano’s agency at the time, ended their partnership with the actress. UTA, however, was not named as a defendant in the case.

Carano’s lawsuit included several references to ‘Star Wars’, arguing that Disney and Lucasfilm imposed a single way of thinking as acceptable in their “empire”, intolerant of questions or non-conformities. The actress points to social media posts from other ‘Star Wars’ actors, such as Pedro Pascal and Mark Hamill, who made controversial political comparisons without facing consequences, alleging discrimination on the part of Disney, as their colleagues’ positions were left-wing.
