Fired: US actress Carano sues Disney with the support of X

US actress and former mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Gina Carano filed a lawsuit against Disney on Tuesday. Carano – who played Cara Dune in the series “Star Wars: The Mandalorian” and was a companion to Mando Din Djarin and Grogu – was thrown out of the series after the second season. The accusation was that the actress had spread right-wing extremist statements in a social media post. In the lawsuit that has now been filed, she is financially supported by Elon Musk’s X Corp, reports the Wall Street Journal.

In the lawsuit filed in federal court in California, Carano claims that Disney and Lucasfilm have “consistently twisted her words to demonize and dehumanize her as a right-wing extremist.” The post that led to the dismissal was a post on Instagram in 2021. In an Instagram story, Carano compared the persecution of Jews in Nazi Germany with today’s hatred of people based on different political views.

Laut Variety The post said in early February 2021 that Jews were beaten on the streets by their neighbors and even children, not by Nazi soldiers. And further: since history is being rewritten, people today would not know that the government first made the neighbors hate Jews. Only then was it possible for the Nazi soldiers to round up thousands of Jews. “What’s different about hating someone because of their political views?” Carano wrote. A day later, the posts were said to no longer be available.

Many users then tagged Lucasfilm and the parent company Disney in their posts on Twitter using the hashtag #FireGinaCarano. A Disney spokesperson said later, that Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and has no plans to do so in the future. Her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.

After Carano filed the lawsuit on Tuesday, she wrote on X (Tweet): “Today is an important day for me – I’m filing a lawsuit against Lucasfilm and Disney.” Carano then explains the background to your social media posts. A few months ago, a lawyer contacted X on behalf of her by email to check the facts of her case. Elon Musk posted on X in August 2023 that X would cover legal fees if users were treated unfairly by their employer because of a tweet or like on

On the official XNews account the company explained yesterday that “as a sign of X Corp’s commitment to free expression, it is proud to financially support Gina Carano’s lawsuit.” Elon Musk wrote that you should “let X know when you are wants to join the lawsuit against Disney“.

After Musk took over Twitter in October 2022, the service, now renamed X, saw several waves of layoffs of thousands of employees. Some of the fired employees themselves said they were fired because of criticism of Musk that they expressed on Twitter or in internal messaging systems. Musk tweeted at the timethat he would like to apologize for dismissing these geniuses and that their talent would undoubtedly be of great use elsewhere.
