US actress and former mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Gina Carano filed a lawsuit against Disney on Tuesday. Carano – who played Cara Dune in the series “Star Wars: The Mandalorian” and was a companion to Mando Din Djarin and Grogu – was thrown out of the series after the second season. The accusation was that the actress had spread right-wing extremist statements in a social media post. In the lawsuit that has now been filed, she is financially supported by Elon Musk’s X Corp, reports the Wall Street Journal.

In the lawsuit filed in federal court in California, Carano claims that Disney and Lucasfilm have “consistently twisted her words to demonize and dehumanize her as a right-wing extremist.” The post that led to the dismissal was a post on Instagram in 2021. In an Instagram story, Carano compared the persecution of Jews in Nazi Germany with today’s hatred of people based on different political views.

A Disney spokesperson said later, that Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and has no plans to do so in the future. Her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.
X pays the legal fees
After Carano filed the lawsuit on Tuesday, she wrote on X (Tweet): “Today is an important day for me – I’m filing a lawsuit against Lucasfilm and Disney.” Carano then explains the background to your social media posts.
