Many people do not regard it as a simple time measurement vocabulary, but give it a deeper connotation, and this connotation is regarded by ordinary people as not. Auspiciously, “Hundred Years” actually represents the end of life.
Anyone who knows a little bit about the speaking habits of the past knows that in the past, the Chinese spoke more taboos, especially “death”, “death”, “end” and so on. On festive occasions, they should try their best to avoid them. Do not open, but try to use other words to refer implicitly. Therefore, in the past, when people talked about the end of a person’s life, death, destruction, etc., they would often use the term “hundred years” to refer to it.
For example, what will happen to XX’s fortune in a hundred years. Or when I feel the impermanence of life, I often use “everyone has that day in a hundred years” and so on.
Why does China have such a culture that uses a hundred years to refer to the end of life? Because traditional Chinese culture considers “nine” to be the largest number, the “Huangdi Neijing-Su Wen” has such a record, saying: “The number of heaven and earth begins with one and ends with nine.” Therefore, ninety-nine is the anode. Counting, there was a saying in the past called “Nine Nine Return to True”. After nine to ten, it means that the count is full, and when it is over, the so-called full moon will result in loss, and water will overflow, and everything will start from the beginning.
Many friends may know that Chinese people used to celebrate birthdays, and they often said that they would do nine but not ten because of this reason.
Maybe some friends will say that you are too dark. These statements are all folk customs of the past. Who cares about these superstitions in modern times?
In fact, it’s really not that I’m here to pour cold water on the CCP with folk customs. The CCP itself knows this very well and cares very much. If you want to talk about who has been hacked, the CCP is actually hacking itself.
[Internet banned “I wish the party a long life”]
For example, the phrase “I wish the party a hundred years of life” is now a sensitive word in mainland China, and it is highly sensitive. If you don’t believe me, you can go to search and try. Several major social network platforms have adopted strict filtering or even banning this sentence.
For example, on Weibo, although there is no ban on “I wish the party a long life”, there are only a few matching content, and the most recent information shows that it is from 2015.
Searching for “I wish the party a hundred years old” at station B will directly display the banned copy of “Nothing found”. Douban’s search results are the same as those of station B, simple and rude, and all are blocked directly. Kuaishou is more cunning, delinking the search results from the “party”, and most of the content appears to be related to longevity. Zhihu does show a lot of content about the 100th anniversary of the founding of the party, but the keyword “I wish the party a long life” can hardly be highlighted in the search results.
There are other platforms, including Baidu, which cannot get cursed and implied results, and the correlation of the results is extremely poor.
What does this show? This can only explain one point. Whether it is the Central Propaganda Department or the Cyberspace Administration, there are a few people in it who know a little bit of the taboos of the past. Although Xi Jinping claims to be full of ancient and modern Chinese and foreign classics, and he must recite all kinds of tomb lists every time he visits abroad, I guess he will not notice these humble folk traditions.
Therefore, instead of doing a big deal in 1999, he deliberately chose the “Hundred Years” to make a big deal. He still looks happy, fluttering, and contented, which is actually a big taboo. I guess that many people are secretly crying out, but they dare not say so, they have to secretly order major online platforms to strictly ban them, and the people are not allowed to “wish the party a long life.”
This time the CCP’s centennial series of events has many interesting things to watch. For example, the large evening party at the Bird’s Nest was suddenly rescheduled ahead of schedule; nearly half of high-level retired seniors did not attend; and the high-profile video call between Xi Jinping and Putin rendered by the CCP—this call It’s actually very interesting. At least it shows that Xi Jinping didn’t get what he wanted. In turn, it also indirectly confirmed what Biden said to Putin and started to work.
[Boycott the Bird’s Nest Party? High-level absenteeism]
Let’s talk about the performance of the Bird’s Nest first. The performance was held on the evening of June 28th. Two days have passed. The performance scene can be said to be nothing new. I am afraid that 40% of the entire performance is devoted to praising Xi Jinping. This performance is not so much the party’s centennial day, as it is Xi Jinping’s day.
To paraphrase the CCP’s favorite phrase, “The CCP has set up a stage for a century, and General Secretary Xi sings.” Xi Jinping is the protagonist, and the party celebration is just a foil.
It is precisely because of this that we have seen the absence of many retired senior veterans. Friends may have seen many media reports saying that Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao did not attend the party. In fact, there are as many as 8 political seniors at the standing committee level who are absent. In addition to Jiang and Hu, there are Zhu Rongji, Wen Jiabao, Wu Bangguo, Song Ping, Li Lanqing and Luo Gan were absent. Among the retired standing committee members present, there were 10 people including Li Ruihuan and Jia Qinglin, so it was almost half to half.

We can pay attention to whether these political elders with their respective strengths are reluctantly attending in order to maintain the party’s “fight without breaking” gang rules, or are they tortured to deny Xi Jinping.
As for the sudden rescheduling of the performance of the Bird’s Nest, it was held one day ahead of schedule from the 29th to the 28th, which also caused many people to speculate. Some people think that it is because of the weather, and some people think that there may be some internal changes, because the CCP has always operated in a dark box, so any statement is possible.
However, we all know that since Xi Jinping came to power, the high-level CCP has a very prominent feature, that is, the superstition of the number 8. Because the homophony of 8 is pronounced, the CCP always chooses the date or hour related to 8 for major festivals. The 2008 Beijing Olympic Games is a typical example. The opening ceremony is scheduled to be held at 8 pm on August 8. The 7-Day Anmen party celebration meeting is also scheduled to start at 8 o’clock in the morning of the same day, while the performance of the Bird’s Nest party, Xi Jinping, enters the venue at 7:57 in the evening and also starts at 8 o’clock in the evening.

[China-Russia call Putin does not give face]

In this short sentence, it can be said that the amount of information is huge. We all know what Xi Jinping needs most at this time? Of course it is a congratulatory message from all countries in the world, especially congratulations from some powerful countries or politicians. These things will be regarded by Xi Jinping as evidence that all nations have come to Korea, and then as the grand narrative background for him to lead the new international order and move towards a community of shared destiny. For Xi Jinping, this directly reflects the gold content of his right to speak in the international community.
Obviously, as Xi Jinping’s most valued geostrategic partner, Putin did not give him this important face. Putin said congratulations in personal name, which means that since you call me an old friend, this is a personal identity, I will also congratulate you in a personal identity by the way, instead of congratulating you as the president of Russia as the representative of the head of state.
The weight of the two is of course very different. Perhaps Xi Jinping did not understand it at the time, and he said with pleasure that this is the blessing and support from a good neighbor and a true partner.

But Putin’s performance is the opposite, not to meet each other, but to distance appropriately.
Although this movement is not large, it is very subtle, which shows that Putin may have made up his mind not to choose between China and the United States, but to balance the two sides in it.
Of course, this is far from Xi Jinping’s expectations. As we mentioned earlier, Xi Jinping’s expectations for Putin are to reach the level of “old friends”. This level can be said to be a step away from “allies” in theory. It is just the difference between formal and informal.
From the perspective of national relations, this should be a relationship of “you should help me on major issues” and a relationship that requires side selection.
But Putin’s statement shows that he only wants to maintain a pragmatic relationship with Xi Jinping, that is, a business-to-business relationship, or a kind of “I can help you selectively. And this goal is actually what the United States currently wants. It is not to ask Russia to unite with the United States and Europe, but at least the two sides maintain a pragmatic relationship, do not make extravagant troubles, and do not distract the United States and Europe from the focus of the CCP.
