Former Storting representative Erling Folkvord has died – Dagsavisen

The 74-year-old died on Friday morning, the family told NTB. He was traveling in Stockholm in connection with a book project about Kurdistan and Palestine.

Folkvord was born in Levanger in 1949, and trained as a social worker in Trondheim. He then moved to Oslo and worked in the care and addiction services. At the same time, he became involved early on in the Rød Valgallianse and the Workers’ Communist Party (AKP).

Sole parliamentary representative

He sat on the Oslo city council for Rød Valgallianse for a total of 19 years, and became the party’s only parliamentary representative throughout history when he was elected to Løvebakken in 1993. When Rød Valgallianse became Rødt in 2007, Folkvord joined the new party. Despite his high elected positions, he never became a leader in AKP or RV. He left the Oslo city council for the last time in 2011.

Folkvord stated to NTB in 2014 that he was satisfied with his contribution to the repeal of the Social Services Act’s confiscation clause while he was in the Storting.

– Folkvord has done an important job that has been important both for Rødt, Oslo and Norway, says Rødt leader Marie Sneve Martinussen to NTB.

– Erling was involved in Rødt, and although he did not always agree with the choices Rødt made, he participated actively and has done an important job.

She says she thanks Folkvord on behalf of the entire movement, and sends her warmest thoughts to family and loved ones.

Respected

He was particularly well-known in Oslo for his fight against corruption and abuse of power. Folkvord was also strongly involved in the cause of the Palestinians and the Kurds. Despite its strong left turn, Store norske lexikon, among others, notes that Folkvord has achieved high respect from many political opponents.

– I will remember Erling Folkvord for his genuine and sincere commitment to the causes he believed in, even though we deeply disagreed politically. My thoughts today go to the family and his loved ones, says Conservative leader Erna Solberg.

Folkvord has also written a large number of books. Among other things, “Our corrupt capital” received a lot of attention in 2011.

His daughter, Jorunn Folkvord, is elected for Rødt in the Oslo City Council and was previously a leader in Rød Ungdom. She was most recently in the media’s spotlight when she interrupted the live broadcast of Melodi Grand Prix to call for a boycott of Israel.
