After the braking disaster for reigning world champion Max Verstappen, Ferrari celebrated a double success. Carlos Sainz secured the Australian Grand Prix just two weeks after his appendectomy. His teammate Charles Leclerc came second. “I like this rollercoaster ride. “Life is just unbelievable sometimes,” said Sainz after his third career win. The Spaniard, who will be leaving Ferrari at the end of the season, benefited from Verstappen’s early retirement. The Dutchman had to park his car after just five laps. With the Red Bull driver’s lightning exit, the hope of his tenth win in a row across the season also evaporated early on. “As soon as the lights went out, the right brake jammed, making the car difficult to drive from the start. It was very cumbersome,” said Verstappen. “If the brakes are stuck, then that doesn’t help.” Verstappen remains the championship leader despite the early end. Nico Hülkenberg also had reason to celebrate. The German Formula 1 driver started in 17th position and, thanks to an excellent performance, was able to secure 9th place and two points. Lewis Hamilton’s teammate George Russell caused a shocking moment with an accident on the last lap. Luckily, Russell quickly relayed: “I’m okay.” The race stewards saw Fernando Alonso, who was driving in front, as the main culprit. The Spaniard had braked in an unusual place and after a time penalty he fell back to eighth place.

The race weekend on the Melbourne street circuit begins on Friday at 2:30 a.m. German time with the 1st free practice session and continues at 6:00 a.m. with the 2nd practice session. The third practice session will take place on Saturday at 2:30 a.m. before qualifying takes place at 6:00 a.m. Fans in Germany also have to get up early to see the highly anticipated race. Race start on Sunday in Melbourne is at 5:00 a.m. CET.

Will the F1 race be broadcast on free TV on RTL?
There is no good news here. The Formula 1 race in Bahrain will not take place live im Free-TV broadcast on RTL. However, RTL only has the rights to broadcast seven of the 24 races live on free TV.
In addition to the opening race in Sakhir/Bahrain, RTL also reports on the race weekends in Budapest (July 21st), Spa-Francorchamps (July 28th), Zandvoort (August 25th), Monza (September 1st), Baku (September 15th). and Las Vegas (November 24).
Hülkenberg made it into the points and secured ninth place.

Formula 1 in Melbourne: route, location and records
The Formula 1 track in Melbourne is also known as the Albert Park Circuit and is located in the South Melbourne district. It was opened in 1996 and is almost 5.3 km long. Since the renovation, the course consists of 14 corners and is mainly driven on public roads that are closed for the race. The Melbourne track is known for its fast corners and good overtaking opportunities, also due to the three DRS zones.
