Franz Beckenbauer died! The Kaiser was 78 years old

Franz Beckenbauer died on Monday, February 8, 2024, at the age of 78. The nicknamed “Der Kaiser” was recognized and appreciated for his extraordinary value but also for his elegance both on and off the field.

The family of the former great German footballer made the tragic announcement of his death: “With deep sadness, we announce that he died in his sleep on Sunday, surrounded by his family. Please mourn him in silence and refrain from asking questions!”

Franz Beckenbauer was the captain of Bayern Munich and the national team of the former FRG. He won 13 trophies in 14 years (1964-1977) with the club team, including three European Champions Cups in 1974, 1975 and 1976.

Franz Beckenbauer played for the national team of the former FRG 103 caps and 14 goals, and became world champion in 1974, in 1966 finishing in 2nd place and in 1970 in 3rd place.

From the position of coach, Franz Beckenbauer distinguished himself in the national team, his six years as a selector (1984-1990) being crowned with the final success at the WC 1990 tournament organized by Italy.

Franz Beckenbauer was one of the three unique players in the history of football, along with the Brazilian Mario Zagallo and the French Didier Deschamps, who won the World Cup as a player and as a coach, being the first to tick off this “double” when he was captain and selector of the representative. Performance repeated by the French Didier Deschamps.
