Although the annual wedding season doesn’t start until spring, planning for the big day usually begins much earlier. And the run is likely to be particularly big for the year 2024, because the year offers many harmonious combination options for memorable wedding dates.
In Gelsenkirchen it is possible to get married in many different, even unusual places. Whether a romantic castle, an animal zoo or a sporting arena – there is something for every taste. The dates for the seven possible wedding locations in Gelsenkirchen have already been set and can be booked now. Unlike the classic, often rather small wedding rooms of the registry offices, most Gelsenkirchen wedding venues can accommodate many guests, so that the entire wedding party can be present at the wedding.
Weddings at Horst Castle
Few registry offices are as beautiful as the Gelsenkirchen one, which is housed in the romantic Horst Castle – one of the oldest buildings in Gelsenkirchen and one of the most important Renaissance castles in Westphalia. The wedding rooms there can accommodate a maximum of 40 or 60 people.

and every first Saturday of the month from 8:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m.
In October, November, January and February there is an additional offer, when particularly romantic couples can get married in the castle’s fireplace room on Thursday afternoons by candlelight, because at dusk the room takes on a very special charm.
On these romantic dates, the wedding room is available to the wedding party for longer than usual after the wedding vows.
Weddings in Berge Castle
Things are similarly romantic at Berge Castle in Buer. There, couples have different sized rooms from 10 for up to 180 people. Weddings take place there every 4th Friday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The operators of Schloss Berge also offer comprehensive event planning, so that nothing stands in the way of an “all-round, worry-free wedding”.
Weddings in Lüttinghof_The castle in the water
The castle is a castle from the 14th century, with a moat and a spacious park as well as enough space for large parties (20-60 people) and the possibility of having the wedding planned and organized by the event specialists from AZ who work there Lüttinghof is a particularly attractive wedding venue. The outdoor wedding ceremonies in the castle park are particularly atmospheric.
The Gelsenkirchen registry office offers weddings there every third Friday from 11 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.

Especially in the European Championship year 2024, a wedding in the Veltins Arena has its special charm. Twice a year, those wishing to get married can use the arena for their very own “home game” and enjoy the special flair of the famous stadium.

Get married in the Holy Cross Church
The Holy Cross Church, a spectacular brick building from 1929, is now an incomparable event location and can now also be used for weddings. The Holy Cross Church also accommodates large wedding parties, and catering can also be provided on site in front of the church or in adjacent rooms.

Getting married on a ship in the White Fleet
Newlyweds can sail to the port of marriage on the ships of the White Fleet. Marriages there take place on ships of different sizes. The newlyweds can then enjoy the landscape of the Ruhr area on a trip on the Rhine-Herne Canal. The “Hafen Graf Bismarck” pier is planned as the starting point. The total journey time is 90 minutes.

General information, costs and booking of wedding venues
At almost all wedding locations – the exceptions are the Veltins Arena and the Holy Cross Church – weddings can also be carried out outside the opening hours of the registry office (except Sundays, public holidays and during company holidays) by arrangement. For this, as well as for weddings on Saturdays or for special offers, such as the candlelight weddings at Horst Castle, additional costs arise in addition to the usual administration fees for marriages (see below).

The booking conditions and additional costs for the use of the respective rooms as well as for additional offers such as event planning or catering or gastronomic offerings must be requested directly from the respective wedding venue.
Organizational information about registering a marriage
The registry office in whose district one of the people getting married has their domicile or habitual residence at the time of registration is responsible for registering the marriage.
Due to legal requirements, a marriage can be registered no earlier than six months before the desired marriage date. However, it is possible and recommended to make an appointment to register well in advance. Marriage dates are set after the marriage has been registered and the marriage status has been successfully verified. Couples who get married outside opening hours can discuss the wedding date in advance with the respective location.
Couples who live in another city and want to get married in Gelsenkirchen must first register the marriage at their place of residence. The process is then forwarded to the Gelsenkirchen registry office, which will contact the bride and groom to arrange an appointment.
There are administration fees for registering and carrying out marriage ceremonies (starting from around €100), which can vary depending on the individual case.
