The Chocó Inter-Ethnic Solidarity Forum, FISCH, and the Anansi Protection Network released the figures of the humanitarian crisis in Chocó in the year 2023, which reflects the general deterioration that occurred in that year.
From 76,404 people confined in 2022, it increased to 85,834, a deterioration of 12.3%. San Juan is the most affected subregion, with 34%, followed by Baudó, with 25%. This phenomenon occurs mainly due to the actions of the ELN and the AGC.
Chocó remains in first place in Colombia in confinement, due to armed strikes, presence of armed actors, anti-personnel mines, restrictions on mobility. In Chocó, armed groups establish limit hours for traveling through river and land routes. In San Juan there are communities like Negría that have been in confinement for two years. 72% of rural communities avoid traditional activities such as farming and hunting.
In the year 2023, 320 acts of armed violence occurred in Chocó that affected 94,020 people, 7 armed strikes, 4 kidnappings, 289 recruitments, 5 anti-personnel mines that exploded and 7 unexploded anti-personnel mines.
