Xinhua News Agency, Berlin, May 8 (Reporter Li Chao) The Group of Seven said on the 8th that its members pledged to gradually get rid of their dependence on Russian energy, including gradually reducing or banning the import of Russian oil.

The G7 leaders issued a joint statement after holding a video conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the 8th, saying that all parties will ensure that the above measures are implemented in a timely and orderly manner, while ensuring that countries have enough time to find alternative energy supplies.

The statement said that the G7 will prohibit or prevent the provision of “critical services” to Russia that it relies on, increase sanctions on Russia’s individuals, and further crack down on the Russian banking industry.

According to the statement, the G7 has provided or pledged additional support totalling more than $24 billion to Ukraine. The group will continue to provide Ukraine with military assistance and expand cooperation with Ukraine in information, economic and energy security. In the coming weeks, the G7 will discuss with the Ukrainian government and international financial institutions plans for Ukraine’s long-term recovery and reconstruction efforts.
