Vasco and Flamengo they drew 0-0 this Sunday (4), at Maracanã, in the sixth round of the Campeonato Carioca, in the first classic of the competition. The result was not good for either team, who remain outside the G4.
Gabigol still had the chance to win, but missed a penalty in the final minutes. Léo Jardim made a great save to secure the draw.
With equality, the pair have nine points in the tournament, but Rubro-Negro has one game less, which they will play on the 10th, against Volta Redonda, at Maracanã.
Balanced first half
The Millions Classic started off a little nervous with the teams abusing fouls. By halftime, the referee had already handed out five yellow cards, four of which went to Vasco. Cruzmaltino, in fact, could already have one less in the first play of the game, due to a foul committed by Léo on Wesley.
In any case, the opening minutes held few emotions. Vegetti, twice, threatened Flamengo’s goal. In one of them, he beat Varela with a header and saw Léo Pereira save on the line. In the other, he headed wide.
Flamengo’s best moment was also a header from Fabrício Bruno. Pedro had a chance, but with the ball on the ground, and shot far from Léo Jardim’s goal.
The partial draw ended up being fair in the initial stage. The balance marked the first part of the classic at Maracanã.
Flamengo changes uniform
At halftime, Flamengo returned to the second stage wearing their white uniform. In the first stage, the team was using red and black, its traditional and main shirt, but as Vasco was the home team and played in black uniform, its number one, it was necessary for Fla to change.
Gabigol misses penalty
Little used by coach Tite, Gabigol had the chance to win. In the final minutes of the match, Arrascaeta was brought down by João Victor inside the area and the referee signaled a penalty.
When taking the shot, the number 10 hit low, into the left corner, and Léo Jardim stretched out to make the save and explode the Vasco fans. The lament was enormous on Flamengo’s side.
Vegetti also hesitates
The second stage was little different from the first 45 minutes. The teams fought a fairly even contest. Vegetti had the clearest chance of the game and didn’t take advantage.
On Lucas Piton’s cross, Rossi missed badly and the ball was clear for the Argentine to just push, but he hit the post. In the fight, Flamengo’s defense prevented the goal and goalkeeper Rossi redeemed himself.
Upcoming games
The two teams return to the field next week for the seventh round of Carioca. Flamengo has another classic ahead, this time against Botafogo on Wednesday (7). Vasco will face Audax-RJ on Thursday (8).
