Gang leader Jimmy Cherizier, also known as “Barbecue,” issued a chilling warning on Tuesday, threatening Haiti with genocide if Prime Minister Ariel Henry remains in power. In an interview with Reuters in Port-au-Prince, Cherizier stated, “If Ariel Henry does not resign, if the international community continues to support Ariel Henry, they will lead us directly into a civil war that will end in genocide.” Cherizier also called out the United States, Canada, France, and the Core Group for potentially being responsible for the deaths in Haiti if the situation escalates.
Cherizier, a former police officer, emphasized that the gangs are determined to oust Henry from office as soon as possible. He further stated that their ultimate goal is to challenge the current system and create a Haiti with equal job opportunities, improved security, free education, and a society free from discrimination. The situation in Haiti remains tense as the threat of conflict looms large, with Cherizier and his supporters ready to take action to bring about change in the country.
