The Israeli army has expanded its operations by moving from the north to the southern area of the Strip
Dozens of buildings in the Nuseirat refugee camp have been destroyed in recent weeks by shelling in the central Gaza Strip, where the Israeli army has expanded its operations from the north to the southern area of the enclave. Gaza’s humanitarian crisis is worsening, with 85% of the territory’s 2.3 million Palestinians having fled their homes and United Nations agencies warning of mass starvation and disease. Israel has vowed to destroy Hamas’ military and governance capabilities to ensure the October 7 attack never happens again. More than 100 days into the conflict, Palestinian authorities say the death toll in the coastal territory has surpassed 24,000. In Israel, the October 7 Hamas attack killed around 1,200 people and around 250 were taken hostage by the militants. Nearly half of the hostages were released during a week-long truce in November, but more than 100 remain in captivity.
