At 03.40 on the night of Wednesday, there was a landslide at Geitabakken, the football pitch for Dale IL in Vaksdal municipality.

Several giant stones have ended up out on the course.

– It’s tragic, the whole thing, says firebrand Kai Ove Grenasberg to BT.

It was Vaksdalposten who mentioned the matter first.

Closed for use

The football field will be closed for use until a geologist can provide an assessment of the situation, reports the municipality.

Kai Ove Grenasberg has played football himself for Dale, has been on the board, and is today what he himself calls a supporter.

It was a shocking sight that greeted him on Wednesday morning.

– According to those who heard it, the collapse happened at half past four last night, he says.

– The grandstand has been smashed

One stone is located in the middle of one half of the track.

– It is about 2.5 meters high and 3-4 meters wide, says Grenasberg.

The collapse has also spilled over the stands and clubhouse, he says.

– Large parts of the grandstand have been smashed.

15 years ago, volunteer work was done to build the track.

– What has happened is just tragic. Everyone in the club, big and small, uses this pitch. It’s the only one we have, says Grenasberg.

– Great forces at work

Vaksdalposten has spoken with the fire coordinator in Vaksdal fire protection, Brede Tjønneland. He lives not far from Geitabakken.

– Must say I was woken up last night by a terrible boom and crash. It rumbled for a long time up the mountain side, he tells the newspaper.

He threw himself into the car.

– I didn’t see the two large stones inside the pitch until we were down again a little before 07.00 today. They are between 15 and 18 cubic metres, so there have been big forces at work here, says Tjønneland.
