The Girona team of Brazilians Yan Couto and Savinho, called up by Dorival Júnior to the national team, lost 1-0 to Getafe this Saturday (16), and got into trouble once and for all in the fight for the Spanish Championship title. With the stumble in this 29th round, away from home, the team could still be overtaken by Barcelona and lose second place.
They appear in second, with 62 points, now ten points behind Real Madrid and just one more than the Catalan rival, who plays this Sunday, visiting Atlético de Madrid. Getafe jumped to ninth place, with 38.
At the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez Stadium, the Azulones were better and took the lead in the first stage. Yellu Santiago, with a shot inside the area, in the 33rd minute of the game, shot past goalkeeper Gazzaniga. Girona, who led much of the tournament, even tried to put pressure on Getafe in their defense, but failed in the last third of the field. The duel was very truncated with fouls and yellow cards, with few clear chances.
Pepe Bordalás’ team remained competitive after half-time and ready to give their fans a treat. The panorama remained, with fouls and cards. Girona’s attempts were unsuccessful, highlighting the drop in performance in the second round. Dovbyk had the best chances, but both times he finished, he was unsuccessful.
