Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado has not announced her endorsement for the main opposition candidate, Enrique Márquez, who registered his candidacy for the upcoming presidential elections just before the deadline. The Unitary Platform, led by Machado, is holding last-minute meetings due to difficulties in registering their delegate candidate, Corina Yoris.
Márquez, a former rector of the National Electoral Council, stated that he will seek the vote of every Venezuelan and denounced the “democratic deficit” in the country. Despite not mentioning Machado directly, he emphasized the need to work towards covering that deficit.
Meanwhile, Yoris, the opposition delegate candidate, has requested an extension to register their candidacy with the CNE due to difficulties accessing the application system. The president of the CNE, Elvis Amoroso, confirmed that the application process ends on Monday, rejecting any requests for extensions.
Molina, the candidate of the Communist Party of Venezuela-Dignidad, also faced obstacles in finalizing his candidacy after the Supreme Court assigned the representation of the party to another individual. So far, 30 political parties have presented their candidates for the upcoming elections, including the current Venezuelan leader, Nicolás Maduro.
The political landscape in Venezuela remains complex as opposition candidates navigate challenges in registering their candidacies while preparing for the upcoming presidential elections.
