Gotriniton – The Time Entranger

Animated films based on series always have their charm, as in the new film dedicated to them, we find them in new adventures that allow us to relive their exploits, furthermore when these are taken from robot souls, we can get excited in seeing the powerful Mecha face new enemies.

This is not the case with “Gotriniton”, a 1981 series consisting of 26 episodes. In 1985 a film “Gotriniton – The Time Entranger” was made, in which the robotic aspect is completely eliminated (it is only seen in the form of a key ring and a model), in fact the screenplay has nothing to do with the series, if not the participation of the protagonists.

A film with a very dreamlike connotation with psychological implications, the woman of the group: Remì, falls into a coma due to a road accident, her condition is desperate and for this reason her former pilot companions of the Gotriniton, Shingo and Kiri are contacted but Those who in the series belonged to the “bad” faction of the Black Poison group also arrive at the hospital: General Katarnoff, Kennagul and Bundall.

While everyone is worried about Remì’s fate, in her subconscious she lives an adventure with all of them in a place where a mysterious little girl has predicted her death within two days, without them being able to escape from this city controlled by gods. terrorists. The only way is to get to the tower that dominates everything, to find a way out. Even if the real struggle seems to be that of her with the figure of her as a child who suffered a trauma due to loneliness…

The work which for the entire duration alternates between real moments and journeys into the girl’s subconscious, has a strong impact on the viewer, even if the screenplay is nothing special, its narration is engaging with particular attention to emotions of the various characters who are a close-knit and winning team that will allow Remi to awaken from a coma.

A typical animation of the 80s, very square, linear features with rather basic landscapes and backdrops, focusing everything on the emotions and action of the protagonists, with some slow passages but which focus attention on everything that surrounds the events.

A title that I recommend seeing, because in it we see a cross-section of what the robotic series of the 80s were like, before the Evangelion revolution occurred.
